Jackson Council set to vote on fiscal 2027-2032 budget strategy, philosophy
On Oct. 27, the Jackson Town Council is set to accept a fiscal 2027-2032 Budget Strategy and vote on Resolution 26-23, a written budget philosophy that sets reserve targets and tees up a possible 2028 sales tax ask.
Jackson Town Council is set to vote Oct. 27 on accepting the Town’s fiscal 2027-2032 Budget Strategy and approving Resolution 26-23, a written “budget philosophy” staff says is guidance, not law agenda packet. The strategy would set reserve guardrails, including to “Maintain a General Fund Balance Ratio between 25-45%,” and it lays out a long plan that includes a goal to put “a general penny” sales tax on the ballot in November 2028 agenda packet. Staff also notes that accepting the strategy does not approve its specific implementation actions, those would come back as separate decisions agenda packet. The agenda sets aside 180 minutes for the discussion and action item agenda.
The record shows Council has been building toward this vote through a strategic budgeting workshop series since at least 2025. At the March 18, 2026 workshop, staff asked Council to work through questions to shape a budget philosophy and plans with and without a future general sales tax, with no recommendation yet March workshop packet.
