Meeting:

County board to hear plan to protect historic ranches and rural character

On Oct. 19, the Historic Preservation Board will tell county commissioners it is making historic ranches and rural character its strategic focus as land uses change.

Teton County commissioners on Oct. 19 are set to receive a quarterly update from the Teton County Historic Preservation Board that puts historic ranches, homesteads, and rural character at the top of the board’s work plan for the coming year. The board says those places are at risk as land uses change, properties get redeveloped, and older ranch buildings become harder to maintain, and it wants historic information to be available early enough to influence land-use decisions and give owners “practical ways” to preserve significant buildings and landscapes Historic Preservation Board Staff Report, BCC Update.

The record available with this agenda item does not show an earlier county action specifically adopting or funding this ranch-focused strategy.
