Commissioners to vote on 5% price increase for jail meals, about $8,000

Teton County commissioners are set to approve Amendment #4 with Summit Food Service, a 5% price increase for detention center meals that staff estimates at about $8,000.

Teton County’s Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to vote Oct. 6 on Amendment #4 to the jail’s inmate food service agreement with Summit Food Service. The Sheriff’s Office recommends approval and estimates the 5% price increase would add about $8,000 to the county’s food service costs at the Teton County Detention Center Amendment to Jail Food Service Contract packet.

The recent record shows this contract has come back repeatedly for annual pricing changes. In June 2025, staff brought Amendment #3, described as a 6% increase estimated at about $10,000 2025 staff report. In October 2022, staff reported Summit sought 7% but the county negotiated a 5% increase under a “Change in Conditions” clause 2022 staff report.

If the contract is effectively a yearly renegotiation, I would like to see the packet spell out how these increases compare to the jail food line item year over year, not just the percent change.
