Family aid grant for single moms and young kids set for a flat third year

Teton County commissioners are set to vote Monday on a second amendment to the county's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Community Partnership Initiative grant with the Wyoming Department of Family Services. The amendment would add $71,750, bringing the contract total to $215,250 and extending it through September 30, 2027. The money is split among Climb Wyoming, the Hirschfield Center and the Children's Learning Center, and the county keeps a $2,450 administrative fee. The new terms do not add capacity. For the October 2026 to September 2027 year, the providers must serve the same number of participants as in 2025. They also have to tell the state within two business days when anyone paid through the grant is hired or let go.
The dollar amount has stayed the same every year. The original contract, dated September 23, 2024, paid $71,750 for one year. Amendment One in August 2025 added the same $71,750 staff report. When the county signed on in 2024, Climb Wyoming asked for $33,750 of the total to train low-income single mothers for careers 2024 staff report. The county's 2024 and 2025 clerk reports gave the award as $71,500 2025 staff report, which is $250 less than the contract amount.
In 2024, Climb described Teton County as 71% more expensive to live in than the rest of Wyoming. Its grant amount has not changed since then.
