Jackson to consider cemetery fees and Aspen Hill master plan

Jackson Town Council will consider adopting new Aspen Hill Cemetery fees and approving a two-phase master plan for the town cemetery during a 90-minute workshop item agenda. The proposed fees include prepped winter burial lots at $3,845, soil-prepped winter burial lots at $1,645, prepped winter cremation lots at $1,355, and soil-prepped winter cremation lots at $955. Staff also propose $30 lot-location and claim-filing fees and a $60 improvement-review fee staff report.

The capacity question is bigger than the fee schedule. Staff say Aspen Hill could fill up in 8 to 12 years under current practices. Phase 1 would rework the existing cemetery, add about 30 traditional burial lots and roughly 400 cremation lots, and cost about $600,000 over roughly four years. Phase 2 would expand the cemetery from 9.4 acres to 13.3 acres, add 270 or more traditional lots and more than 800 cremation lots, and carry a preliminary $3.7 million cost that would need later funding decisions, potentially including sales-tax sources or a future specific purpose excise tax project.
