Jackson to weigh 13.3-acre Aspen Hill Cemetery expansion plan

Jackson Town Council will consider whether to approve Phase 2 of the Aspen Hill Cemetery Master Plan on Sept. 28, a long-term expansion that would grow the cemetery from 9.4 acres to 13.3 acres and set up future funding decisions rather than immediate construction workshop packet. Staff says the expansion would add about 270 traditional burial lots, more than 800 cremation lots and a future scattering garden. The preliminary cost is about $3.7 million.

The procedural hinge here is that council would be approving a framework, not a build date. Staff says Phase 2 would still need a more detailed cost estimate, a funding decision and later council direction on timing, with possible sources including the seventh-cent general sales tax or a future Specific Purpose Excise Tax project workshop packet. The town's staff report says Aspen Hill could reach capacity in 8 to 12 years under the current layout, and the larger master plan is meant to stretch burial capacity beyond a century workshop packet.
