Jackson to consider exempting up to 3,000 sq ft homes from housing mitigation

On Sept. 28, the Town Council is set to revisit whether detached homes up to 3,000 sq ft should be exempt from affordable workforce housing mitigation requirements in the Land Development Regulations.

Jackson’s Town Council is slated Sept. 28 to take up a Land Development Regulations (LDRs) change that would exempt detached single-family homes of 3,000 square feet or less from required affordable housing mitigation. For folks building on the valley’s edges, this kind of exemption can matter. Housing mitigation is often the make-or-break add-on that pushes a “plain house” into a bigger loan, or into shaving corners elsewhere. Watch for Council discussion on whether 3,000 sq ft is truly a modest family home in Jackson, and whether the exemption should be paired with guardrails that keep it from turning into a loophole for high-end builds.
