Teton and Bannock County juvenile detention deal set for Oct 1-Sept 30

Teton County commissioners on Sept. 21 will consider an agreement with Bannock County, Idaho that would run from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027, for temporarily housing Teton County youth at the District 6 Juvenile Detention Center in Pocatello. The term is spelled out in the Memorandum of Agreement with Bannock County Resolution.

If the board approves it, the one year term matters for locals because it is the county’s chance to keep a close hand on how often we are shipping kids out of county, and whether the paperwork and court order requirements in the agreement are working in practice. The agreement also allows either county to terminate with 30 days’ written notice, so watch for any discussion about what would trigger a mid year exit and what backup option Teton County would use if Bannock County ends the deal.
