County commissioners to set a Use Control Area at Walton Ranch corral site

Teton County commissioners on Tuesday are set to vote on MSC2026-0023, a request by 4W, LLC to designate a 0.28-acre Use Control Area in the Walton Ranch corral area, about a half-mile north of the ranch entrance on Highway 22. The county action would create a recorded, long-term land-use restriction as part of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality Voluntary Remediation Program, tied to contamination around an old cattle-dipping vat site staff report.

The proposed restrictions are blunt, and that is the point. The Use Control Area would prohibit “Residential uses and all other structures facilitating overnight or long-term occupancy,” along with most construction and excavations, while still allowing basic ranch infrastructure like fencing and corrals. Staff notes the vat has not been used since 1982, and says the control area is the final step needed before the ranch can complete a remedy agreement with the state and get the site closed out under the voluntary program meeting agenda.
