County to vote on $100K homeland security tactical gear grant

$100,000 in federal homeland security money is up for a Teton County Commission vote Sept. 1, with the Sheriff's Office proposing to spend it on approved tactical gear and equipment grant packet. The award comes through the Federal Fiscal Year 2025 State Homeland Security Program, administered by the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security, under project 25-SHSP-TET-SO-AET.

The packet says the money is reimbursement-based and runs on a Sept. 1, 2025 to Aug. 31, 2027 performance period. It also says Bearcat and drone expenses are not supported by the award. The useful question for commissioners is not just whether to take the grant, but whether the county will later show exactly what gear was bought, where it is tracked, and how it improved emergency response beyond adding another $100,000 of equipment to the shelf.
