Stilson Transit Center operating deal up for county vote

Stilson Transit Center opened for service Aug. 11, and Teton County commissioners are set to vote Monday on who keeps it working for riders: the Town of Jackson, through Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit (START), would handle routine cleaning, minor repairs, trash and recycling, transit signage, sidewalk snow removal and utilities under the operating agreement listed on the county agenda. The county would keep the heavier pieces: cameras, heating and cooling, capital repairs, alarms, electronic doors, information technology, parking lot snow removal, sweeping, electric vehicle chargers, pavement and lighting, according to the Stilson packet.

For commuters parking at Stilson or transferring there, the useful part is not another ribbon-cutting. It is whether bathrooms, indoor waiting space, covered bike parking with e-bike charging, sidewalks and the lot are actually maintained once winter hits. Staff say both sides have already budgeted their assigned costs for fiscal year 2027, so the question Monday is whether commissioners approve the management split for the county-owned hub that now sits inside the START system.
