Jackson Council to weigh 10 free hours at the garage, then $4/hr

Jackson’s Millward and Simpson parking garage could switch to a “first 10 hours free” setup starting Oct. 1, with parking priced at $4 per hour after that and capped at $20 per day, if Town Council agrees with staff’s recommendation during Charlotte Frei’s 60-minute update on the Parking Garage and Parking Action Plan agenda.

The staff report in the meeting packet says the winter pilot data is driving the change: “75% of winter users stayed 11 hours or fewer,” and the Town’s target is to keep the garage around 75% to 85% full so drivers can actually find a stall when they need one. Under the proposed structure, an 11-hour overnight stay would cost $4. A 16-hour hotel-guest stay would hit the $20 max. Staff also argues the locals discount program is not worth continuing because eligibility checks were “timeconsuming, inequitable in practice,” and pulled staff into disputes over suspected commercial operators. agenda packet
