Mountain Bike the Tetons seeks $3,600 for trail crew work

Mountain Bike the Tetons is asking the Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board for $3,600 to put boots on the ground for trail maintenance, and the board is set to talk it through at its Aug. 13 meeting. The request would fund “up to 72 hours of professional trail work” by the group’s paid trail crew, aimed at keeping natural surface routes like Millcreek, Aspen, and Mail Cabin rideable and sustainable, with work like clearing downed trees, fixing drainage, and keeping signage and small infrastructure in shape meeting agenda.

It is a small ask in the lodging tax world, but it gets at a recurring question: how much visitor driven money should go to the unglamorous maintenance that keeps high use trail systems from getting rutted out and braided into new social lines. In its application, the group says it would track basics like “miles of trail maintained” and “drainage features cleaned or constructed” as proof the money went straight into stewardship application.
