County to review Conservation Department rollout as hiring proceeds
Commissioners are set to review, not vote on, the Conservation Department rollout, including director recruitment and an August to December implementation sequence for natural resources, planning and building divisions.
The Board of County Commissioners will review Teton County's Conservation Department rollout Monday as an 18-month strategic-initiatives check-in, not a voting item. The presentation says the Natural Resources Technical Advisory Group is active, a Parks and Recreation natural resources coordinator has been hired, the Director of Conservation position has been created and recruitment is underway, and the next phase runs from August through December: hire the director, create the department, implement Natural Resources, Planning and Building divisions, and conduct community key-informant interviews presentation.
The procedural tell is that staff are reporting back after commissioners gave direction in July to start the "Near Future v2 Organizational Chart" 18-month packet. The July LegacyWorks packet says the Conservation Director was already approved in the fiscal 2027 budget and framed the hire as the first step in a phased model that keeps Planning separate at first but tests closer integration later July workshop packet. Watch whether commissioners let that sequencing ride or ask staff to narrow the unresolved structure before the December target.
