Stage 1 fire restrictions would expand beyond Alta on Tuesday
Teton County commissioners will consider a Stage 1 fire restrictions resolution that would prohibit most open fires in unincorporated county areas, with exceptions for established campgrounds, grills, and screened fire pits.
If your summer plans involve dispersed camping, trailhead tailgates, or a backyard fire pit in the county, Tuesday is when Teton County may tighten the rules. Commissioners will consider adopting Stage 1 (partial) fire restrictions for the unincorporated parts of Teton County, expanding beyond the Alta-only restriction approved July 7, according to the county’s July 21 agenda and Fire/EMS staff report Board of County Commissioners Meeting Agenda.
The draft resolution would prohibit “open fires” in unincorporated Teton County until the county fire warden withdraws it, citing “High” fire danger and a regional uptick in fire starts. The listed exceptions include campfires in established fire rings at established campgrounds, charcoal grills, and home fire pits or bowls if they are used with a maximum 1/4 inch screen spark arrester (plus some work related uses like welding in a cleared area).
