Planning Commission to review stealth cell tower at the fairgrounds grandstand

Jackson’s Planning and Zoning Commission will review a Conditional Use Permit for Diamond Communications to remove the fairgrounds’ ~90-foot monopole and mount a concealed wireless facility on the rodeo grandstand at 305 W Snow King Ave.

Jackson’s Planning and Zoning Commission is set to take up Diamond Communications LLC’s Conditional Use Permit request (P26-114) to remove the existing roughly 90-foot wireless monopole at the Teton County Fairgrounds and replace it with a “stealth” facility built into the rodeo grandstand at 305 W Snow King Ave. Staff is recommending approval, framing the project as a way to keep wireless coverage and emergency communications while cutting the visual profile by getting rid of the freestanding tower agenda packet.

One thing to watch on July 15 is design, not service. The Design Review Committee said it generally supports the concept but asked for a less “kitchy” look and more detail on materials and colors, and it flagged height verification and lightning protection as issues the Planning Commission should consider during the permit review agenda packet.
