Commissioners to put Stage 1 fire restrictions on Alta July 8

Teton County commissioners are set to adopt Stage 1 (partial) fire restrictions for the unincorporated Alta area, effective Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with limits on open fires due to high fire danger and tight regional resources.

Teton County’s Board of County Commissioners is set to adopt Stage 1 (partial) fire restrictions for the unincorporated area west of the Teton Range (the Alta area), effective Wednesday, July 8, and staying in place until the County Fire Warden withdraws them Alta Area Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Packet.

The staff report says fire danger is rated “High” in Teton Valley and the Caribou Targhee National Forest, and the county wants consistent restrictions and messaging with regional partners in Idaho. The draft resolution would prohibit open fires, with exceptions that matter to folks living and working out there, including certain trash or refuse fires in screened containers during evening and early morning hours, established campground fire rings with a cleared area, charcoal in enclosed grills, welding and grinding in cleared areas, and portable stoves and “open fire branding activities” in cleared areas with a 15 foot radius Alta Area Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Packet.
