A $2M pool repair reserve, and $400K for Phil Baux Park
At the June 1 joint meeting, Town and County agreed to earmark $2 million from Parks and Recreation reserves for Rec Center pool maintenance and add $400,000 for Phil Baux Park playground replacement, while also compromising on a 57/43 split for joint planning costs.
Town of Jackson Council and Teton County commissioners agreed June 1 to set aside $2 million from the joint Parks and Recreation reserve fund for Rec Center pool maintenance and repairs, plus add $400,000 for a Phil Baux Park playground replacement in the fiscal year 2027 capital budget Jun 01, 2026 Town Council Joint Information Meeting. For families and workers who use the pool on off-hours, the message was simple: they do not want another shutdown where the “pitchforks were out” and everyone loses their swim time.
The same meeting also put a spotlight on immigration enforcement and trust in government. Two public commenters asked for transparency and impact analysis after recent local reporting on transfers from the Teton County Detention Center to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including cases that reportedly started with driving violations. Commissioner Wes Gardner said he was “deeply troubled” by the trauma for families and committed to follow up with the sheriff about policies “around, um, basic traffic violations.”
