County to count traffic on WY-22 in July in Wilson work zone
Ahead of Downtown Wilson construction, Teton County plans 48-hour counts in July for volume, speed, and vehicle class on WY-22 between RM 5.9 and 6.8, data the county says will capture real-world driver behavior during construction.
Teton County staff plan to collect 48-hour traffic data in July on WY-22 between mileposts 5.9 and 6.8 during Downtown Wilson construction, capturing traffic volume, speeds, and vehicle class. The plan is spelled out in a June 19 letter the Board of County Commissioners sent to Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), which says the county will “include volume, speed, and class data between RM 5.9-6.8” in its upcoming July traffic counts as a construction-phase baseline. For commuters, this is the kind of before-and-during snapshot that should show whether the work zone is actually calming speeds on the descent into Wilson, or just shifting congestion by time of day. County planning documents for the July effort describe 48-hour counts on non-holiday weekdays (preferably Tuesday through Thursday), reported in short time intervals and broken out by Federal Highway Administration vehicle classes, with an estimated July 2026 cost of $12,395. traffic data collection contract staff report
