County set to adopt 2026 National Electrical Code, effective July 1
Commissioners are set to adopt the 2026 National Electrical Code for unincorporated Teton County, with local amendments on exterior disconnects, grounding for 200-amp services, and allowed wiring methods for IBC-designed buildings.
The Board of County Commissioners is set to adopt Teton County’s 2026 Electrical Code Resolution, which would move the county to the 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC) for the unincorporated area starting July 1, 2026. For anyone building out a restaurant, remodel, or new commercial space outside town limits, this is the rulebook your electrician and inspector will be working from, and it can change materials, layout, and inspection outcomes. Details are in the Adoption of the 2026 Electrical Code Staff Report.
The resolution includes local amendments that would require service disconnects on the exterior of the building served (with grouping and enclosure requirements), require a concrete-encased electrode for services 200 amperes or larger that terminates in the main disconnect, and restrict wiring methods for buildings designed under the International Building Code to specified metal raceway and armored cable options. Staff says there was no public comment during the 45-day comment period and Fire/EMS expects no fiscal impact from adopting the update. Adoption of the 2026 Electrical Code Staff Report
