County may put 300 hours into water quality land regulations

Commissioners are set to decide whether water quality Land Development Regulation amendments get about 300 staff hours in fiscal year 2027, with rules aimed at waterbodies, wetlands, wastewater, surface water and groundwater.

The Board of County Commissioners will decide June 15 whether to keep about 300 hours for county water quality Land Development Regulation amendments in the fiscal year 2027 work plan work plan packet. Staff says the work is 40% complete and would focus on protection standards, water filtration, wastewater, surface water, groundwater, and tools to protect drinking water.

For anyone irrigating, running stock near a creek, or watching septic density creep toward shallow groundwater, this is the rulemaking to follow. Staff expects it to take most of the County Long Range Planner's time in fiscal year 2027, with a Board workshop anticipated this summer before public hearings.
