Adaptive Access Program: new caregiver rules for Rec Center access
Teton County Parks and Rec is teeing up changes to its Adaptive Access Program, including a defined caregiver policy and a formal application process for people with disabilities who need support to use facilities and programs.
If your family uses the Rec Center and a child or adult with a disability needs hands on help to participate, a policy change is on the table that could affect how you bring a caregiver along.
On May 19, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is set to take up updates to the county’s Adaptive Access Program, described in the agenda as an effort to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, with a new caregiver policy and an application process. If you rely on this kind of support, the big parent questions are: who qualifies as a caregiver, whether caregivers get access for free or with restrictions, and what documentation the new application will require. The agenda packet itself does not spell out those details, so I would want staff to walk through what changes for families immediately and what stays the same.
