Teton County to vote on Judge Weisman's part-time magistrate slate

A BCC resolution would approve eight local attorneys and retired judges as part-time magistrates for Circuit Court cover and caseload support, including replacing Claire Fuller with Alexandra Nash after Fuller joined the prosecutor’s office.

The Teton County Board of County Commissioners is being asked to do a procedural but necessary piece of court administration: approve Circuit Court Judge Erin Weisman's appointments of part-time magistrates under W.S. §5-9-210, via a formal resolution in the county’s April 27 packet. See: Teton County Circuit Court Appointment of Part-Time Magistrates Packet.

The slate matters because these magistrates can step in when the judge is out and can help with workload in a court that handles misdemeanors and civil cases up to $50,000, according to the staff report. They can also serve as “participating judge[s]” in the Court Supervised Treatment Program.

One change is driving the paperwork: Claire Fuller “can no longer serve” as a part-time magistrate after taking a job with the Teton County and Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and Judge Weisman is replacing her with Alexandra Nash. The resolution would approve eight names: Lauren Browne, Katherine Mannen, Erika Nash, Alexandra Nash, Bret King, Spencer King, retired Judge James L. Radda, and Judge Christopher Leigh. The county’s fiscal and staff impacts are listed as none because part-time magistrates are paid by the State of Wyoming.
