Will the Grand Targhee shuttle keep running? Resort asks county for $85k
Grand Targhee Resort is seeking $85,000 in Teton County FY27 community development funds to help keep its Victor/Driggs-to-resort shuttle operating, pointing to employee commuting needs and fewer riders during last winter’s delayed opening.
If you (or your teen) count on a shuttle instead of a second car to get to work or skiing, Grand Targhee is asking Teton County to help keep those buses on the road next year. The resort is requesting $85,000 in FY27 “community development” funding — with $0 requested from the Town of Jackson — to support its shuttle service that runs between Victor/Driggs and the resort. (It’s described as operating as a subcontractor to START Bus.)
In its application, Grand Targhee says the money helps cover basics like fuel, labor and maintenance on aging buses, and that the shuttle reduces Ski Hill Road traffic and parking crunch at the resort. The resort says it tracks success mainly through daily ridership logs (separating employees and guests), plus parking density and traffic flow.
The resort also notes ridership was down this past winter after a delayed opening pushed normal mid-November shuttle use into December. It reported February year-to-date ridership dropping from 27,381 riders in FY25 to 19,118 in FY26, alongside a dip in skier visits. Details are in the START Board staff report — Grand Targhee Resort Community Development Funding Application.
