Teton commissioners set to approve $74,551 Recycling Center skid steer purchase
The Teton County Board of Commissioners is scheduled April 21 to approve a $74,551 purchase of a 2026 Caterpillar 250 skid steer for the Recycling Center, replacing a 2014 JCB unit with rising repair costs.
Teton County commissioners are scheduled on April 21 to approve a notice of award and sales agreement with Western States Equipment Co. for a $74,551 skid steer loader for Integrated Solid Waste & Recycling (ISWR), according to a county staff report in the ISWR Skid Steer Notice of Award and Sales Agreement Packet.
ISWR says the purchase would replace its 2014 JCB 190 skid steer, which has “increased maintenance needs and reduced reliability.” The department reports it has spent $11,098.50 on repairs to the current machine so far in FY2026, and says the skid steer is used for material handling and site maintenance at the Recycling Center.
The county issued an invitation to bid March 2 for a 2026 Caterpillar 250 (or equivalent). Staff say three bids came in March 18; two were deemed nonresponsive for missing key specifications (RDO Equipment’s John Deere 324G and Z Mill Inc.’s JCB 270). Western States’ Caterpillar bid scored highest among responsive bids, with a proposed delivery timeline of about five weeks.
Staff say the purchase was not included in the approved FY2026 ISWR capital improvement plan, but that Fund 30 (ISWR operating fund) has sufficient capacity based on current-year CIP spending levels.
