Teton commissioners to open comment on adopting 2026 National Electrical Code

The Teton County Board of Commissioners meets April 21 to open a 45-day comment period on a resolution adopting the 2026 National Electrical Code (with local amendments). A public hearing and vote are anticipated June 16, with the code effective July 1.

Teton County commissioners are scheduled to consider a resolution adopting the 2026 National Electrical Code (NEC) — with local amendments — and to open a 45-day public comment period at their April 21 meeting, according to a 2026 National Electrical Code Adoption staff report.

If the board directs the County Clerk to advertise the comment period, staff anticipates a public hearing and adoption vote at the June 16, 2026 regular BCC meeting. The resolution would take effect July 1, 2026. (The code applies to electrical work in unincorporated Teton County under county authority cited in the resolution.)

Staff highlighted several changes in the updated resolution compared to the prior version, including clarified requirements for exterior service disconnects; a clarified requirement for a concrete-encased electrode on services 200 amps and larger (terminating in the main disconnect); and removal of a stand-alone electrical fee schedule (with fees instead consolidated into Fire/EMS’ 2025 master fee schedule). The resolution also adds a list of permitted wiring methods for buildings designed under the International Building Code in Teton County.

Written comments will be accepted during the advertised 45-day window once opened; the staff report indicates Fire/EMS will coordinate with the County Clerk to handle public notice and receive comments.
