Jackson council to decide on JH Community School middle-school CUP, fee waiver

Jackson Town Council is scheduled April 20 to vote on a conditional use permit for a new 7,250-sq.-ft. Jackson Hole Community School middle school at 1735 High School Road, plus a requested fee waiver estimated at about $27,926.

Jackson Town Council is scheduled to consider a conditional use permit (CUP) and a related fee-waiver request on April 20 for a new 7,250-square-foot Jackson Hole Community School (JHCS) middle school in the Flat Creek Business Center at 1735 High School Road (Units 410–440, Building 400). The proposal would convert the entire Building 400 into middle-school classrooms and administrative space, with minimal exterior changes (signage, lighting upgrades and expanded bike parking), according to the council packet’s staff report. See: Town Council Regular Meeting Agenda Packet.

Town planning staff and the Planning Commission are recommending approval of CUP P26-013, with two conditions: that JHCS make a “good faith effort” to encourage students to walk, bike or use public transit, and that the school not install a proposed painted crosswalk between Building 200 and Building 400. Staff say the use is expected to fit within existing parking allocations (20 spaces provided for the middle school; 50 allocated to the combined JHCS campus) and includes 10 additional short-term bike spaces for Building 400, bringing that building’s total to 14. See: Town Council Regular Meeting Agenda Packet.

The separate request (P26-014) asks council to waive planning/building application fees for the CUP and both phases of the school’s buildout. The staff report estimates the waiver’s value at about $27,926, plus potential additional trade-permit fees of roughly $800–$1,600. Staff do not make a recommendation on whether to waive fees, noting the decision is discretionary and may be based on whether the project advances community goals such as “charitable, civic, educational” benefits.
