Jackson Council to vote on JH Community School middle school CUP, fee waiver

On April 20, the Jackson Town Council will consider a CUP for Jackson Hole Community School’s 7,250-sf middle school at 1735 High School Road and a fee waiver request valued at about $27,926 for the two-phase buildout.

The Jackson Town Council is scheduled April 20 to decide whether to approve a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) allowing Jackson Hole Community School to open a new 7,250-square-foot middle school (Daycare/Education use) in the Business Park zone at 1735 High School Road, in the Flat Creek Business Center’s Building 400 (units 410, 420, 425, 430 and 440). The proposal would convert the full Building 400—previously home to Sweet Peas Daycare—into middle school classrooms, small-group instruction space and administrative areas, with minimal exterior changes such as signage, lighting upgrades, crosswalk paint and expanded bike parking. At full enrollment, the middle school is proposed to serve up to 90 students with roughly 8–10 teachers and four administrative staff, with school hours 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. weekdays. The staff report says the expanded campus would have 50 of the complex’s 198 parking spaces allocated to JHCS (20 spaces tied to Building 400), and proposes adding 10 short-term bicycle parking spaces near Building 400 (14 total for that building). Town planning staff and the Planning Commission recommend approving the CUP with two conditions: (1) the applicant must make a “good faith effort” to encourage students to walk, bike and/or use public transportation; and (2) the applicant “shall not install a painted crosswalk between Buildings 200 and 400.” Separately, council will consider the school’s request to waive planning/building fees; the packet estimates the waiver’s value at about $27,926 for the CUP and both phases of the buildout, plus potential additional trade permit fees of $800 to $1,600. Staff do not make a recommendation on fee waivers. Town Council Regular Meeting Agenda Packet
