Lodging tax board reviews $23,750 Outer Park Road geology audio tour grant
On April 9, the Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board reviewed a Q4 Community Partnership request for $23,750 to build a free, GPS-triggered geology audio tour along Grand Teton National Park’s Outer Park Road corridor.
The Jackson Hole Travel & Tourism Board (the county’s lodging-tax board) reviewed a Q4 Community Partnership funding request for $23,750 to create a free, geology-based audio tour along the “Outer Park Road” corridor in Grand Teton National Park, from Jackson to Moran, during its April 9 meeting. The discussion item on the agenda was titled “Outer Park Road Grand Teton National Park Geology Tour.” (Lodging Tax Board Meeting Agenda)
According to the application, Teton Geological Services (contact: Dominique Brough) is partnering with TravelStorysGPS and the Geologists of Jackson Hole to produce a 30-minute tour featuring 10 geo-located audio points that play hands-free as users travel the route. The proposal says the tour would include full written scripts for accessibility, a “virtual exhibit hall” of images, and links to additional information, with messages about responsible recreation woven into the interpretation. The application lists a project window of April 1–June 30, 2026 and proposes using lodging-tax funds to write and record the stop narratives, build the GPS-enabled tour, and market a June launch. The applicant also says the board would receive access to user analytics (views, downloads, audience profile information), with popular TravelStorysGPS tours ranging from about 1,000 to 40,000 users annually (average 6,700). Note: The agenda packet available in the county’s document system does not include minutes or an approval vote; this item was posted as an application review/discussion on April 9.
