Teton County sets 2027 salary bumps for elected officials ahead of May filing

On April 7, Teton County commissioners considered a resolution setting Jan. 4, 2027 salaries for most full-time elected offices at $153,700 (up from $145,000) and the coroner at $72,500 (up from $50,000) ahead of the May 2026 candidate filing period.

Teton County’s Board of County Commissioners took up a resolution April 7 to increase pay for several elected county offices beginning Jan. 4, 2027 — a change that must be set before the May 2026 candidate filing window so prospective candidates know the compensation. The proposal would raise the assessor, clerk, clerk of district court, county & prosecuting attorney, sheriff and treasurer from $145,000 to $153,700. It would also raise the county coroner from $50,000 to $72,500. (See staff report and draft resolution in County Board Attachment.)

The staff report ties the $153,700 figure to state law and state-set judicial pay. Wyoming’s constitution directs the Legislature to fix county officer salaries; statute sets a minimum/maximum and leaves the local number to commissioners within those bounds. The report notes that 2022 legislation (HB 91 and HB 63) tied the maximum pay for the listed county offices to circuit court judge salaries, which were increased to $153,700 through a state budget bill. The coroner’s pay is set separately by commissioners under Wyo. Stat. §7-4-210. County Board Attachment

The resolution also reflects a timing constraint: under Wyo. Stat. §18-3-107, commissioners can adjust these salaries only once every four years, so the April 7 action sets the level for the next adjustment cycle. County Board Attachment
