Parks & Rec board to review Rec Center pool audit with replacement timelines

Teton County/Jackson Parks & Rec’s advisory board meets April 14 to discuss a March 2026 audit finding widespread code and equipment issues in the Recreation Center’s indoor pools, with recommended replacement windows of ~5–10 years for leisure/therapy and ~10–15 for the lap pool

Teton County/Jackson Parks & Recreation’s Advisory Board meets April 14 to discuss a new “Pool Facility Audit” of the Community Recreation Center’s indoor aquatics, commissioned in October 2025 and based on a November 2025 site visit. The agenda lists the audit as a discussion item and includes a public-comment period. See the Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Agenda.

In the Pool Facility Audit, consultant Counsilman-Hunsaker reports that the lap pool is in “fair to poor” condition and that the cost of code-compliance renovations is “approaching the cost of replacement,” recommending replacement in about 10–15 years. The leisure pool is described as in “poor” condition, with code-related deficiencies including skimmers that don’t meet NSF and Teton Health District requirements—work the report says would require cutting them out and fully replacing them—leading to a recommended replacement timeline of roughly 5–10 years. The therapy pool is rated “fair” but flagged for similar skimmer/code issues, also with a 5–10 year replacement recommendation; the spa is “fair to good” but still cited for skimmer/code deficiencies, with a 10–15 year replacement recommendation.

Beyond the pool shells, the audit characterizes the overall condition of the pool mechanical systems as “poor,” citing deteriorating or non-code equipment, automation “in disrepair or … lacking,” and some chemical feed units and pumps that are “dysfunctional.” As near-term context, county commissioners in January approved up to $77,752 for “backstock” aquatics mechanical parts meant to reduce closures while larger-scale renovations are planned, according to a Staff Report for Purchase Order Agreement for Rec Center Recreation Aquatics Mechanical Equipment Purchases.
