Teton commissioners get Hoback Junction infrastructure update; workshop planned

On April 13, 2026, Teton County commissioners heard a non-action update on Hoback Junction water/wastewater, Fire/EMS facilities and housing pressures, with staff flagging a fall 2026 community workshop and upcoming wastewater feasibility results.

Teton County’s Board of County Commissioners heard an information-only update April 13 on “Hoback Water, Sewer, Fire/EMS and Housing,” framing Hoback Junction as “at an inflection point” as major infrastructure planning accelerates. The discussion item included no requested action or vote. See the meeting agenda and linked materials in the Board of County Commissioners Meeting Agenda.

A presentation to commissioners said the Hoback Junction Water and Sewer District’s drinking-water system is being prepared for bidding, while a wastewater feasibility study is underway with results expected this summer. It also highlighted near-term public investments including a new fire station entering the design phase, with a suggestion to include a community center in the facility. The presentation also noted interest in a pocket park at the Snake-Hoback confluence and rising interest in development, including workforce housing. The board was told a $25,000 Community Foundation grant is pending for a fall 2026 community workshop — described as the first communitywide conversation of its kind since 2002. Details are in the Hoback Junction Infrastructure Update Presentation.

The update also teed up policy questions for future coordination: how new water and potential wastewater systems could shape land-use and growth patterns; what types of community spaces, housing and limited commercial uses (if any) are appropriate; and what governance or planning structure Hoback should pursue beyond the water/sewer district (e.g., a task force or incorporation).
