Teton commissioners get Hoback Junction infrastructure update; workshop planned

Teton County’s Board of County Commissioners heard an information-only update April 13 on “Hoback Water, Sewer, Fire/EMS and Housing,” framing Hoback Junction as “at an inflection point” as major infrastructure planning accelerates. A presentation to commissioners said the Hoback Junction Water and Sewer District’s drinking-water system is being prepared for bidding, while a wastewater feasibility study is underway with results expected this summer. It also highlighted near-term public investments including a new fire station entering the design phase, with a suggestion to include a community center in the facility. The presentation also noted interest in a pocket park at the Snake-Hoback confluence and rising interest in development, including workforce housing. The board was told a $25,000 Community Foundation grant is pending for a fall 2026 community workshop — described as the first communitywide conversation of its kind since 2002. The update also teed up policy questions for future coordination: how new water and potential wastewater systems could shape land-use and growth patterns; what types of community spaces, housing and limited commercial uses (if any) are appropriate; and what governance or planning structure Hoback should pursue beyond the water/sewer district (e.g., a task force or incorporation).
