Teton County Library board to weigh $40K sprinkler upgrades from reserves

At its March 19 meeting, the Teton County Library Board is slated to decide whether to use $40,000 from the library’s Capital Reserve Fund to fix sprinkler-system deficiencies flagged in an annual inspection.

The Teton County Library Board of Directors meets March 19 and is scheduled to vote on a $40,000 allocation from the library’s Capital Reserve Fund (account 910-000) to address “fire suppression system deficiencies” at the Jackson library. The action item appears on the board’s agenda with a specific motion to approve the funding. (Library Board Meeting Agenda)

In a staff report, facilities maintenance coordinator Rick Smith said the library’s annual fire-suppression inspection found “several deficiencies with sprinkler head installations.” Smith said he worked with Mountain Fire Protection and Teton County/Jackson Fire/EMS to define the scope needed to bring the facility into compliance with current code, and that Fire/EMS identified the issues as “life safety and building protection requirements.” (Fire Department Staff Report)

The report characterizes the deficiencies as “non-critical” but recommends remediation. If the board approves the funding, staff plans to manage a competitive procurement process by developing and issuing an RFP, reviewing and scoring proposals, and awarding a contract.
