Jackson DRC reviews 32-unit Virginian Lodge apartments concept at 750 W Broadway

Jackson’s Design Review Committee (DRC) reviewed a conceptual design for the Virginian Lodge Apartments, a proposed 32-unit apartment development at 750 W Broadway in the southeast corner of the Virginian Lodge property. The concept calls for four two-story buildings (eight units each) totaling about 15,000 square feet; each building would include six ~340-sf one-bedroom units on the ground floor and two ~850-sf two-bedroom units on the second floor, with second-level exterior stairs and a connecting walkway. The applicant returned for “courtesy” conceptual feedback after the DRC continued the project in January and asked for specific refinements to the site’s public realm, building entries/wayfinding, stair visibility, courtyard quality, buffering between parking and buildings, and a more cohesive architectural relationship to the existing Virginian Lodge development. In response, the applicant rotated and repositioned the two west buildings to create a U-shaped courtyard facing west (replacing a tighter north–south grid with ~10 feet between buildings), and adjusted exterior finishes to add board-and-batten wood siding and entry accents intended to better match the site’s existing buildings. Town planning staff reported a preliminary code check finding the proposal generally consistent with the CR-3 zoning, and noted the required Development Plan has been submitted and is under review.
