Jackson to weigh 10-year Axon deal adding new police records system

On March 16, Jackson Town Council is set to consider an Axon Enterprise contract amendment bundling four existing contracts into a 10-year fixed-price agreement and adding Axon’s records management system for the police department.

Jackson Town Council will consider approving an Axon Enterprise, Inc. contract amendment on its March 16 consent calendar that would add Axon’s police records management system and roll the police department’s four existing Axon contracts into a single 10-year, fixed-price agreement, according to the staff report and proposed amendment in the meeting packet. The police department says the switch would better integrate with its existing Axon hardware/software and improve data exchange with partner agencies, including Teton County dispatch, where time-sensitive sharing is critical. Staff told council the bundled “Officer Safety Plan” offer includes additional tools such as an AI suite (including live language translation via body cameras), auto-tagging of body/dash camera footage, and a drone-as-first-responder platform; the department said it does not plan to activate the drone platform unless directed by council. The staff report says the bundle is structured so the town can choose which platforms to use, while still securing the package pricing. (Town Council Regular Meeting Agenda Packet)

Financially, the staff report estimates the FY27 annual cost at $369,708 (about $114,330 more than the current $255,378), with FY28–FY36 costs fixed at $417,942 per year. Police identified potential offsets totaling $66,357 — including avoiding taser replacement costs, replacing the current records management system, and dropping a separate investigations software platform — and said the longer-term deal would limit exposure to uncapped renewal increases as early as 2028. Staff recommended approving the amendment before Axon’s March 17 offer deadline, while noting the agreement is conditioned on FY27 budget appropriation. (Town Council Regular Meeting Agenda Packet)
